“One of the very few things that I do every single day is put on fragrance. If I’m not wearing make-up, if my hair’s not done, if I’m walking around in pajamas — I still put my fragrance on. I will brush my teeth and put on my perfume.” – Blake Lively.
Fragrance can be highly expressive and can also linger in our memories for lengths of time. Besides, intentionally utilising it to commemorate significant events in our lives can increase its impact. Ask anyone who wore a unique, hand-selected scent. While a smell has the power to transport us to places, it is no doubt a deeply personal experience. And when you are at a family gathering, there is a judgemental element that plays around. There are relatives, family and close ones who are determining your personality according to your fragrance. It must be said that while wearing an attire is a rather hot topic of discussion, before the gathering, the protocol of donning perfume is often ignored. Here are some guiding principles everyone can use when choosing perfumes during a family event.
Start with a clean body
It is our skin that bestows uniqueness to a fragrance. Making an effort to look your best for events is an unspoken social ritual. Yet, this should be welcomed because looking nice gives you more confidence. The ideal surface for scent is clean skin, so take a long shower or treat yourself to a luxurious soak in the tub with your favourite bath oils, soaps, and washes. The two odours will combine to create one that is more agreeable and certainly more natural.
Think about the company that you are going to meet.
It’s crucial to think about what will be appropriate for the peers around you in the situation. You should definitely be expressive and wear a scent that is daring, sensuous, and unique to you if you are gathering your closest friends and family for a joyful get-together. Depending on how formal your workplace is, there may or may not be a certain level of politeness and reservation when attending a work event. Avoid scents that are overly brash and sickening in these situations, especially those that belong to the gourmand family. Wear upscale fragrances and keep your attitude professional.
Don’t go too far – either with the fragrance or your dressing
The trick to using fragrance is to practice reticence. If you cover yourself in cologne, your contemporaries will find it overbearing and unattractive even if it has the most exquisite scent. Over-application is unnecessary and not the intention of the product because the majority of high-quality scents are created with a tall concentration of aromatic oil. It’s also important to keep in mind that when your nasal receptors become less sensitive to familiar aromas, your own perfume will smell much weaker to you.
Basic application routine
It should not take more than two or three applications. We advise applying a spritz behind each ear, one on each wrist, and a light dab across to the opposite. Rub gently rather than vigorously as this can destroy the top notes and change the aroma by mixing too much with the skin’s natural oils. Spray from a distance to ensure a uniform distribution throughout the skin without creating excessively concentrated pools in localised places.
